Frequently Asked Questions
What is stump grinding?
Stump grinding uses a machine to chew a leftover stump down into chips and take it below ground level, so it’s out of sight and out of the way.
How is stump grinding different from stump removal?
Grinding takes the stump down below the surface and leaves the roots to break down on their own. Full removal pulls out the whole root ball and leaves a much bigger hole. Grinding is faster, cleaner, and easier on your yard.
How deep do you grind a stump?
We usually grind four to six inches below ground, deep enough to plant grass or lay sod over the spot. We can go deeper if you’re building over it.
What happens to the wood chips and the hole?
We can haul off the grindings or use them to backfill the hole so the area is level and ready to use. Your call.
Can I plant grass or build where the stump was?
Yes. Once the stump is ground down and the hole is filled with soil, you can seed it, sod it, or build over it.
Do you grind the surface roots too?
We can grind down the roots that spread out and lift your lawn, so you’re left with a smooth, even yard.
Can you grind stumps in tight spots?
Usually, yes. We bring gear that fits through gates and around tight corners to reach stumps in back yards and close quarters.
